Camoteskimab (also known as MEDI-8999) is a humanized monoclonal antibody of the IgG1 isotype. It is designed as an antagonist to selectively target and neutralize the Interleukin-18 (IL-18) cytokine. IL-18 is a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine and a member of the IL-1 superfamily. By binding to and sequestering circulating IL-18, Camoteskimab prevents the cytokine from engaging its receptor complex, thereby inhibiting IL-18 driven inflammation. The primary goal of this inhibition is to suppress the production of other inflammatory mediators, particularly Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), which is downstream of IL-18 signaling. Camoteskimab has been investigated for the treatment of various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases where IL-18 signaling is implicated, such as Still's disease.
