Mucin 5AC (MUC5AC), a high-molecular-weight, gel-forming glycoprotein. MUC5AC is a member of the mucin family and is normally expressed in the respiratory tract, stomach, and endocervix. However, it is also aberrantly and highly expressed in a significant subset of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDAC) and colorectal cancers (CRC), where its expression is often associated with more aggressive disease and poorer prognosis. In cancer, mucins like MUC5AC can promote tumor progression by modulating cell adhesion, signaling, metastasis, and immune evasion.
