Lokivetmab is a caninized monoclonal antibody specifically developed for veterinary use in dogs. It targets and neutralizes canine interleukin-31 (IL-31), a key pruritic (itch-inducing) cytokine. By binding to IL-31, lokivetmab blocks its interaction with the IL-31 receptor complex on sensory neurons and immune cells, thereby inhibiting the signaling pathway that triggers pruritus. It is approved (under the brand name Cytopoint®) for the treatment of canine atopic dermatitis, providing long-lasting relief from itching and associated inflammation with a monthly subcutaneous injection.
