GDNF family receptor alpha 3 (GFRA3) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored co-receptor that, together with the RET tyrosine kinase, forms the functional receptor complex for artemin (ARTN), a member of the GDNF family of neurotrophic factors. The ARTN–GFRA3–RET signaling axis plays a critical role in the development, survival, and sensitization of peripheral sensory neurons, particularly those involved in pain perception.
