Plozalizumab (also known as MLN-1202) is a humanized IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody developed as a targeted immunomodulatory therapy. It specifically binds with high affinity to the C-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CCR2). By blocking this receptor, plozalizumab inhibits the primary signaling pathway responsible for the recruitment of monocytes and macrophages from the bloodstream into inflamed tissues. This mechanism of action aims to reduce the pathogenic infiltration and activation of these immune cells at disease sites, positioning it as a potential therapeutic agent for conditions driven by chronic inflammation, such as atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic nephropathy, and other inflammatory disorders.
