The pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide type I receptor is a G-protein-coupled receptor that binds with high affinity to pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP). This ligand-receptor pair plays a central role in the transmission of pain signals and the initiation of migraine attacks, particularly through its effects on trigeminal nerve activation and cranial vasodilation. By antagonizing PAC1, vipalanebart aims to inhibit this pathway and prevent migraine onset.
