Abrilumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody designed as a targeted therapy for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It functions as an antagonist that selectively blocks the α4β7 integrin. By inhibiting this gut-specific adhesion molecule, abrilumab aims to prevent the trafficking and accumulation of pro-inflammatory lymphocytes in the intestinal tissue, thereby reducing local inflammation. Clinical development progressed to Phase II trials, but further advancement was discontinued.
