Product Description

Trevogrumab (REGN-1033) is a humanized IgG4 kappa monoclonal antibody targeting growth/differentiation factor 8 (GDF8, also known as myostatin), a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth. It binds to and neutralizes myostatin, blocking its interaction with the activin type IIB receptor (ActRIIB) to promote muscle hypertrophy and strength. It is being developed for the treatment of sarcopenia, muscle-wasting disorders, and certain neuromuscular conditions.

Function

Myostatin (GDF-8), a cytokine belonging to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily. Myostatin is produced primarily in skeletal muscle cells and acts as a potent negative regulator of muscle mass. It binds to the activin type IIB receptor (ActRIIB) on the surface of muscle cells, triggering a signaling cascade that ultimately inhibits muscle protein synthesis and satellite cell activation, thereby limiting muscle growth.
