Product Description

Vedolizumab is a humanized IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody designed for the treatment of moderate to severe active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). It specifically targets the α4β7 integrin on the surface of lymphocytes, blocking its interaction with mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (MAdCAM-1) expressed on gut vascular endothelium. This gut-selective mechanism inhibits lymphocyte migration into intestinal tissues, thereby reducing local inflammation while minimizing systemic immunosuppression.

Function

α4β7 Integrin is expressed on a subset of memory T cells that preferentially migrate to gut-associated lymphoid tissue. Its interaction with MAdCAM-1 (constitutively expressed in gut venules) is a key step in the pathogenesis of IBD. Vedolizumab’s selective blockade offers a mechanism-based approach to dampen gut inflammation without broadly compromising immune surveillance elsewhere in the body.
