Product Description

Fletikumab was an investigational monoclonal antibody being developed by Novo Nordisk A/S for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It functioned as a targeted cytokine inhibitor, specifically designed to bind and neutralize interleukin-20 (IL-20). By blocking the activity of IL-20, fletikumab aimed to inhibit the pro-inflammatory and tissue-destructive pathways driven by this cytokine in the joints of RA patients. However, development of fletikumab was discontinued after Novo Nordisk made a strategic decision to cease research and development activities in the inflammation therapeutic area.

Function

Interleukin-20 (IL-20), a cytokine belonging to the IL-10 family. IL-20 signals through two heterodimeric receptor complexes: IL-20R1/IL-20R2 and IL-22R1/IL-20R2. These receptors are predominantly expressed on non-hematopoietic cells, particularly keratinocytes, synovial fibroblasts, and osteoblasts, rather than on immune cells.
